Mary Morris - Home for Christmas: Graphic Design for My Sister's Album

Oh Boy! I'm so excited! Not only is it almost Christmas, but also my sister, Mary Morris, has a new Christmas Album out! You may remember Mary's talents from her hilarious Adele Hello parody music video, Snow last year. Since then, she has been busy! Her new album, Mary Morris - Home for Christmas is officially available for digital download & CD orders at marymorrischristmas.com! On the album, you'll hear Mary's jazzy renditions of Christmas classics.

One of the multiple versions of the CD's DiscArtwork.

The more minimal, final version of the CD's disc artwork.
As Mary was preparing to release her new Christmas CD with the incredible A&M Productions, I was asked to finish up it's graphic design. Now, straight up graphic design isn't something I do a lot of, but I was happy to participate & help in any way possible! During the album design process, I took the provided photography (by Lisa Price Photography!) into Photoshop & Illustrator to add all of the text & adjustments. I even trimmed a tree branch in PS to make a bit more room for the album's title. For the text & layout I relied heavily on the preliminary design work that A&M had put together. I kind of used their work as a "rough draft" that I could build upon while changing fonts & moving things around etc. Arlen at A&M's work was a big help! I also had assistance from the great Chad Morris (my sister's husband.) Such a wise fellow.

Gosh, I'm so glad I got to help out with this fun project. I'm really proud of what Mary & A&M productions have put together! It's such great music! I hope that all of you will take a moment to check out Mary's website marymorrischristmas.com & get your awesome Christmas music today. Also, be sure to check out the promo video on the website! Until next post,  may God bless you & may you all have a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Coloring VeggieTales Super Comics: Tomato Sawyer & Huckleberry Larry's Big River Rescue

Line art by Cory Jones, Colors by Philip A. Buck

I can hardly believe it's been a year since I had the treat of working as a freelance Artist Assistant & Colorist for illustrator, Cory Jones as he drew & lettered the 32 page VeggieTales comic book story Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry's Big River Rescue for Big Idea Entertainment & B&H Kids publishing. The story was adapted by Aaron Linne & based on the Big Idea/VeggieTales video & characters & is collected in VeggieTales Super Comics: Volume 5 (as well as sold as a single story here.)

Below are examples of how Cory's line art basically looked when I received it, followed by my digital color version of each page. The majority of my work was done in Photoshop with minor corrections & adjustments in Illustrator. My original color work was in CYMK mode, but for the purposes of posting online, it has been changed to RGB mode (which alters the colors slightly.) Also, Blogger does something that decreases the image quality & resolution, but you can still see a slightly better version of the images over here. The comic's word balloons, thought bubbles, & captions have been removed.

Nancy illustration drawn by Guy Gilchrist & colored by Philip A. Buck

Hello everyone! This Saturday is "World Stroke Day" and in recognition of this, Nancy cartoonist, Guy Gilchrist has teamed up with the American Heart Association & the American Stroke Association to bring us all a special strip Saturday in the paper as well as this story about his own experience having & getting past a stroke. Please check the article out, (it is even illustrated by Guy, himself.) The above image of Nancy with a heart is also used the article. I was pleased to be the one Guy called on to color it for him. Below, you can see the original line art that he provided me with.

Nancy with heart drawn by Guy Gilchrist

My dad is a speech pathologist who works with stroke patients, so I know that strokes & all things related are serious business. So please, take the time to check out the article (as well as the American Heart Association & American Stroke Association,) & spread the word about World Stroke Day. Thanks, folks! Until next time, God Bless.

Coloring for Guy Gilchrist: Animal from The Muppets!

"Animal" Drawn by Guy Gilchrist & colored by Philip A. Buck

Hey, everybody! Check out this awesome drawing by Guy Gilchrist that I got to color. Animal in action! haha! You can buy prints of this & a bunch of other drawings by Guy & colored by me at Oklahoma City Comic Con this weekend (which means, right now!) You can also get them signed by the cartoonist himself! Pretty cool if you ask me. So if you're in that area, search out his booth at the con, if you want to see some awesome stuff. Who would've thought I'd get to color The Muppets for the very person who co-created The Muppets comic strip?!

Well, I just wanted to let you all know about the convention prints. I'll be posting more of them in the days ahead. Until next time, thanks for stopping in & God bless!

Coloring VeggieTales Super Comics: LarryBoy & the Quitter Critter Quad Squad

It's been a while since I've shared some of the coloring work I did on the VeggieTales comics & I realized there are still a a bunch of stories I haven't shown you! Last year, I had the great opportunity to work as a freelance Artist Assistant & Colorist for illustrator, Cory Jones as he drew & lettered the 32 page VeggieTales comic book story LarryBoy & The Quitter Critter Quad Squad for Big Idea Entertainment & B&H Kids publishing. The story was written by Mike Nappa based on the Big Idea/VeggieTales video characters & is collected in VeggieTales Super Comics: Volume 4.

Below are examples of how Cory's line art basically looked when I received it, followed by my digital color version of each page. The majority of my work was done in Photoshop with minor corrections & adjustments in Illustrator. My original color work was in CYMK mode, but for the purposes of posting online, it has been changed to RGB mode (which alters the colors slightly.) The comic's word balloons, thought bubbles, & captions have been removed.

The full comic is available in VeggieTales Super Comics: Volume 4, which can be purchased in most book stores and on Amazon and should be available as a single issue comic on Comixology soon.  This story was the fifth of many VeggieTales comics I was lucky enough to work on with Cory Jones. Thanks for checking it out!

P.S. Of course, VeggieTales Supercomics & its characters belong to Big Idea Entertainment.
